LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has alleged that its Punjab chapter chief organiser Aliya Hamza, incarcerated in Kot Lakhpat Jail, has been attacked by some female inmates, terming it an attempt on her life.

According to reports shared by the PTI leaders, a woman inmate, along with some 10 others, attacked Ms Hamza and allegedly tried to strangle her over water issue in the jail’s toilet.

They stated that the PTI’s social media activists, Sanam Javed and Falak Javed, who are also in the jail, intervened and rescued Ms Hamza from the attackers.

Meanwhile, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has stated that a quite disturbing news of “life attempt” on Aliya Hamza has been received from Kot Lakhpat Jail.

In a tweet on his X handle, Mr Raja stated that the Punjab government and the jail administration are responsible for the protection of Aliya Hamza in the Kot Lakhpat Jail.

He demanded an immediate and transparent investigation into the “attack” and that the negligent jail staff should be dismissed and booked.

“A petition, in consultation with the family, will be filed in the court for Ms Hamza’s medical examination and protection,” he stated.

Punjab Prisons Inspector General Mian Salik Jalal rejected the allegation and claimed that no physical clash occurred in the jail.

“Some women inmates had only exchanged hot words over taking water from the jail toilet,” he said.
