ISLAMABAD: A policeman has been arrested and sent to jail for allegedly torturing a suspect in custody inside a police station.

A case has been registered against the policeman under Section 155-C of the Police Order 2002 and Section 506(ii) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the FIR, the Shams Colony SHO, along with the station clerk, inspected the lock-ups and found a suspect in the investigation room. A sub-inspector had detained the suspect in the room and allegedly tied his legs with chains.

The suspect had been arrested in connection with a motorcycle theft case registered on April 9, 2026, outside CTTI College. An iron rod-welding private individual was also found in the room.

The sub-inspector, along with the private person, allegedly misused authority and chained the suspect.

Sources in the police told Dawn that the case was registered after a video of the incident circulated in social media groups and drew public attention. Following this, senior police officials ordered the registration of a case and the arrest of the sub-inspector.

However, the private individual was released without any action, the sources added.

The sources further said that all police stations are linked with the Safe City Islamabad system, but the concerned officer failed to monitor such illegal activity inside the police station.

It was a coincidence that someone recorded the video of the alleged brutality inside the investigation room, they said, adding that it was later shared in various groups and reached senior police officials.

Senior officers took notice and ordered registration of a case and an inquiry into the matter.
