ISLAMABAD: Former chief of army staff Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa has been admitted to a military hospital after sustaining injuries in a fall at his home.

Inter-Services Public Relations confirmed this on Thursday, a day after the incident was initially reported.

The military’s media affairs wings said in a statement that the former army chief was under treatment at the Combined Military Hospital after the fall.

An informed source, which also confirmed the reports of Bajwa’s fall, earlier told Dawn that he suffered injuries after slipping at his residence.

He was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit. While the extent of his injuries was not immediately clear, he was reported to be in stable condition.

‘100pc out of danger’

In a video message released on social media, the former army chief’s brother-in-law, Naeem Ghumman, said Bajwa was “barefoot when he slipped and suffered a head injury”.

He added that nothing “suspicious came up” following his medical examination, and all necessary tests were conducted.

Ghumman stated that the former army chief is “100 per cent out of danger”.

Bajwa, 65, served as the 10th chief of army staff from Nov 29, 2016, to Nov 29, 2022, with an extension in his tenure granted in 2019.

Since retiring in late 2022, Bajwa has largely stayed out of the public eye.
