‘Green Line ridership sees major growth’

KARACHI: The daily ridership of the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system has seen a significant increase, rising from 52,000 to 72,000 passengers over the past four months, following its transfer from the federal government to the Sindh government.

The development was highlighted during the 15th board meeting of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA), chaired by Senior Minister for Transport and Information Sharjeel Inam Memon at the Sindh Secretariat on Tuesday. The meeting focused on further expanding the system’s reach, with officials setting a target to boost daily ridership to 150,000 passengers.

Key attendees included Sukkur Mayor Arsalan Islam Sheikh, Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, SMTA Managing Director Kamal Dayo and other senior officials.

During the session, Mr Dayo presented a detailed briefing on the authority’s performance and provided updates on ongoing urban transport projects.

The board approved the portfolio for the Annual Development Programme 2025–26 and directed the expedited completion of pending projects. It also approved the hiring of a non-fare revenue firm to manage the property assets of the Green and Orange Line BRT systems, aimed at boosting revenue beyond passenger fares.
