LAKKI MARWAT: Two police officials, including an officer, were injured when terrorists carried out yet another quadcopter attack on the Miryan police station in Bannu in the early hours of Friday.

A police official confirmed the attack and said that under the fire-down protocols, the cops deployed at the police station opened fire on the quadcopter when they saw it at around 03.15am.

“But before they could hit it, the quadcopter dropped explosives at the police station building,” he said.

The official said that two officials, including ASI Badar Munir and head constable Khursheed Nawaz, were injured in the attack and immediately moved to the District Headquarters Hospital.

He said that the strike smashed windowpanes and damaged the vehicles parked inside the police station. After the attack, a police contingent reached the area and launched a search for the assailants.

Meanwhile, police cleared the mountainous area in the Takht-i-Nusrati tehsil of Karak district after a search and strike operation on Friday.

“The operation was launched on the special directives of district police officer Shahbaz Elahi,” said an official, adding that the police were assisted by CTD and rapid response force personnel.

He said that the law enforcers raided suspected hideouts of terrorists in the Sheen Ghar mountainous terrain and in the area around Surki Lawaghar Dam to ensure their arrests.

Though the official did not disclose any details about arrests, he said that the operation was aimed to maintain peace and curb activities of criminals’ gangs. The official said that the police would continue such operations until terrorism was completely eliminated.
