MITHI: A delegation of representatives of various United Nations agencies, led by MPA Qasim Siraj Soomro, visited Thar Foundation’s community welfare initiatives in Thar Coal Block-II on Thursday.

Members of the delegation representing the World Health Organisation (WHO), Unicef, Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), UNFPA, UN Women, the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO), and the World Food Programme (WFP) visited model village of New Senhri Dars.

They went to a livestock vaccination and pest control camp in Mansingh Bheel village and reviewed operations of a reverse osmosis (RO) plant providing clean drinking water.

Later, the group visited the Thar Foundation Hospital in Islamkot.

Members of the UN team also administered polio drops to children as part of an ongoing immunisation campaign.

Foundation General Manager Farhan Ansari told the team that the foundation was running 28 school units serving 5,000 students, operating 23 RO plants in local villages, and providing healthcare through five health centres and two mobile medical units.
