Children in Gaza will die if Israeli blockade continues, aid group warns
Islamic Relief has called Israel’s power cut “yet another cruel act of collective punishment” and said it will prevent people from getting drinking water, force hospitals to shut down and lead to outbreaks of disease, Al Jazeera reports.
“It is inevitable that children and some of the most vulnerable people in Gaza will die, unless international governments exert serious pressure on Israel to allow supplies in. Words of concern are not enough; immediate action is necessary to stop people from starving,” the group said.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) says lifesaving supplies, including medicine, in Gaza are dwindling as the Israeli blockade enters its second week.
“The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) is operating mobile health clinics, ambulance services, a field hospital and supporting the running of hospitals within Gaza. PRCS, like many other organisations, is now having to ration the small amount of aid that there is remaining,” it said.
“This puts our volunteers and staff in an impossible position, where they are forced to make critical decisions under even greater pressure,” it added.
