SWABI: Elder brother of former senator and ex-provincial emir of Jamaat-i-Islami Mushtaq Ahmed Khan was shot dead outside his house here on Sunday while trying to prevent a neighbour from killing his father.
District police officer Mohammad Azhar said Shakeel Ahmed Khan was killed by the accused, identified as Kamran Khan, who was a drug addict, in Ahmad Khan village of Razaar tehsil.
The DPO said when Shakeel heard the firing, he dashed to Zaman’s residence to help stop the scuffle, but he was also shot fatally.
However, registering FIR at Kalu Khan police station, Riaz Ahmed, another brother of the deceased, told police they were standing in front of Gul Nabi’s house when they heard gunfire from Zaman’s house.
“Zaman’s son, Kamran Khan, who was armed with a Kalashnikov, came out of his house and started firing with an intent to kill us. As a result, my brother, Shakeel died on the spot, while Nabi sustained injuries.”
He said later it was found that the accused, Kamran also shot and killed his father, Zaman, over unknown reasons.
Meanwhile, in separate messages, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Awami National Party central president Aimal Wali Khan condemned the incident.
The deceased was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Ahmed Khan area. His funeral was attended by thousands of people, including JI central chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, deputy emir Mian Aslam, former JI head Sirajul Haq, former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser, Abdul Akbar Khan Chitrali, Himayatullah Mayar and others.
PROGRAMMING CONTEST: Habib University, Karachi, won the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia West Multi-Site Regional Finals held at Ghulam Ghulam Ishfaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology here on Sunday.
National University of Science and Technology stood second.
The contest was held simultaneously in Bangladesh, India, Iran and Pakistan.
The two-day contest started with a mock round, culminating in a high-stakes five-hour final contest on the final day.
Three teams from Afghanistan were also scheduled to participate in the contest along with various Pakistani students. However, unfortunately, their visa was delayed, which prevented them from attending the high-profile event. Officials of Pakistan Software Export Board also graced the occasion as observers.
