The European Union and eight other countries have called for an immediate 21-day ceasefire across the Israel-Lebanon border while also expressing support for a ceasefire in Gaza following intense discussions at the United Nations.

Besides the EU — a bloc of 27 states — the eight other countries are:

• the United States

• the United Kingdom

• Australia

• Canada

• Saudi Arabia

• United Arab Emirates

• Qatar

• Japan
