DADU, April 2: Historians and political leaders of the district have demanded early renovation of historical sites. Speaking at a programme to mark the 13th death anniversary of historian Abdullah Magsi here on Sunday, they stressed the need for research on historical places.

Dr Qurban Jhatial said federal, provincial and district governments should provide facilities to historians for research on historical places of Sindh.

He said that research on Amri Ja Dara, Runi Kot and other historical sites had not been carried out properly.

He said that due to negligence of the archaeology department, historical places were in the worst condition.

About shortage of water, he said Sindh had not received its share of water for the Rabi season which had affected crops. He said the people of Sindh, the NWFP, Balochistan and a majority of people of Punjab opposed construction of Kalabagh and other dams on the River Indus.

Social worker Qaim Ali Siyal and Citizens’ Action Committee president Inayat Jamali demanded that books should be published on historical places of the province.

They called for renovating historical sites, including tombs of Kalhora emperors, Badshahi Masjid, Khudabad, Rani Kot and tombs of Talpurs located.

They demanded that tourists spots, including the Gorakh hill station, Bado Jabal and the Manchhar Lake, should be developed.

Dr Liaquat Magsi said the work of the late historian Abdullah Magsi on historical places of Dadu should be published.

Dr Hameed Soomro said the late historian had worked in the fields of history and archaeology and referred to his works on tombs of Kalhoras and Talpurs.

The chief executive of the academy, Mohammad Khan Panhwar, at a ceremony held here on Sunday said the Rotary International had donated 150 sets of Chemistry, Algebra, Physics, Computer Science and English books to deserving students under its project “Big project books for international goodwill”.
