ISLAMABAD: The United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) and the University of Peshawar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to integrate research, data, and evidence into policies that directly impact the lives of children and families in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The MoU, signed by Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Naeem Qazi and Unicef Representative in Pakistan Abdullah Fadil on Wednesday, aims to enhance learning and development across Unicef’s key programme areas in the province, including health, nutrition, education, child protection, and water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Dr Qazi expressed his gratitude to Unicef over collaborative initiative, describing it as a valuable opportunity for both students and faculty to leverage Fund’s global expertise and knowledge. “This partnership will significantly strengthen our capacity to make informed decisions for the welfare of communities in less developed areas of the province,” he said.
He also praised Unicef’s commitment to support the university in establishing a centre focused on climate change and disaster risk reduction.
The Unicef delegation was informed about the university’s plan to establish a child lab, which would serve as a repository for all research materials related to children.
“At Unicef, our approach to service delivery for children and their families is always guided by data and knowledge,” said Mr Fadil. “Our collaboration with the University of Peshawar will turn academic insights into practical actions. By generating and analysing evidence, we aim to make informed decisions that benefit children today and for future generations,” he said.
