Sahiwal hospital gets 12 new operating theatres

SAHIWAL: Commissioner Shoaib Iqbal inaugurated 12 operating theatres in the surgical tower at Sahiwal Teaching Hospital on Monday.

SMC Principal Prof Dr Imran Hasan said the largest public health facility in Sahiwal division was catering to the needs of 6.7m population and more than 2,000 patients were being treated in outpatient department (OPD) daily in the 1,150-bed hospital.

He said the development of modern operating theatres would facilitate the doctors to operate patients in better conditions.

Later, the commissioner distributed 191 laptops among the students under the Prime Minister Youth Laptop Scheme at Comsat University, Sahiwal.

He was accompanied by campus director Dr Nazir Ahmed. As many as 102 female and 89 male students received laptops.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Iqbal said the scheme would bring about a digital revolution and enable the youth to link themselves to digital spaces.

ENCOUNTER: Farid Town police arrested an injured suspect after an encounter with three robbers.

Reports said last night three robbers snatched a motorcycle from a man in Ghala Mandi and ran away towards Chak 92/6-R. Police followed the suspects who opened fire on the police van near Dera Jaffar.

After an exchange of firing, police found an injured suspect near the village road while his accomplices managed to escape.

The arrested robber was identified as Ali Ahmed while his two running friends were identified as Muhammad Shahid and Umer Farooq.

Police shifted the injured to hospital.
