KARACHI: Three persons, including a policeman, were shot at and wounded by armed robbers over resistance in different parts of the city on Saturday, police said.

Azizabad SHO Kamran Haider said Constable Rana Ikram, 32, posted at the Rapid Response Force at Naval Headquarters, was having tea with his friends at a restaurant in Bhangoria Goth when two armed men emerged there and demanded their cell phones.

When the policeman refused, the muggers snatched the phone from him. As they searched him, they realised that he was a policeman as he was wearing the police uniform. Seeing that, they became jittery and opened fire on him and rode away.

The injured policeman was shifted to the Aga Khan University Hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger.

In another incident, two persons were shot at and wounded by armed muggers near Islamia College, police said.

They said that the victims were identified as 23-year-old Abdul Ahad and 22-year-old Hamza Zubair. They were shot when he put up resistance to a robbery bid, the police said.

Both of them were shifted to the AKUH for treatment.
