Mob ransacks restaurant after waiters beat up two passers-by

KARACHI: Police on Saturday registered a case against over two-dozen suspects on charges of ransacking a restaurant on Tipu Sultan Road.

East-SSP, Zubair Nazeer Shaikh said that some employees of the Angeethi restaurant were playing cricket on the road when the ball hit two young passers-by. They exchanged words with each other and later restaurant’s waiters beat up the passers-by.

The two youths went home and brought with them over 20 friends. Armed with sticks, they attacked the restaurant, ransacked it and injured one employee. Later, they escaped on motorcycles.

A video of the attack on the restaurant also went viral on social media.

The SSP said that the restaurant administration did not want to lodge an FIR; therefore, the police registered a rioting case on behalf of the state against two-dozen unknown persons. Efforts were under way to arrest them, he added.

Meanwhile, the restaurant issued an announcement stating that it had nothing to do with the fight its staff members had while playing cricket outside the premises of the restaurant.

“The situation has been handled and the law will take its course,” it said, adding: “We will resume operations today.”
