ISLAMABAD: Armed men shot and injured a man during robbery while cash and valuables were looted from 19 other places in the capital, police said on Friday.
In the first incident, three persons armed with weapons intercepted Hanan at Islamabad Expressway near Faizabad and snatched away his motorcycle after shooting and injuring him upon resistance.
Mr Hanan sustained a bullet injury to his leg and fell on the road. The injured was shifted to hospital.
In another incident, a gang of gunmen looted a fast-food delivery man, Wajid Hussain, at G-8/4, the police said.
Hussain reached the given address at G-8 behind Rescue-15 to deliver an order.
However, the caller asked him to come over to a park near T&T Colony.
Riders of a car approached him at the park and held him up at gunpoint when he asked them to pay the bill. The gunmen looted Hanan and escaped.
Four people armed with weapons intercepted and held up M. Usman at G-13 and took away his motorcycle.
Moreover, burglars broke into the house of Khadija Zafar, a headmistress working with the Punjab education department, at Sohan and made off with gold ornaments worth Rs300,000 and other items. Burglars also took away foreign currency and gold ornaments from the house of Qamar Anjum at Humak Model Town.
Similarly, burglars broke into the house of Touseef Ahmed at Humak Model Town and made off with 1.5 gold ornaments and Rs40,000. Thieves stole Rs456,000 and mobile phones from the house of Raja Zubair at I-10/1.
Besides, culprits stole a motorcycle, cash Rs5,000 and two mobile phones from the house of Zaraf Iqbal at Iqbal Town. Burglars broke into the house of Sardar Amjad Ali at Shahpur and made off with Rs80,000 and ornaments worth Rs25,000.
Meanwhile, three cars were stolen from G-7/3-1, G-7/2 and F-8 while six motorcycles were lifted from G-11/4, PWD, F-10 Markaz, G-6/1-2 and F-7. A rikshaw was also stolen from Ghauri Town.
Rawalpindi
More than 50 cases of street crime were reported to the district Rawalpindi police that included 13 robberies, 37 cell phones snatching and 13 motorcycle and gold jewellery theft.
Sadiqabad was the worst-hit area where five robberies were committed in which citizens were robbed of 10 cell phones and gold jewellery worth over Rs1.3 million.
A noticeable 25 per cent increase has been recorded with the police in robbery incidents as 1,985 cases were reported last year compared to 2,467 so far this year.
Moreover, 26pc increase was recorded in theft of motorcycles and 53pc increase in snatching of motorcycles at gunpoint.
According to the police statistics, 3,710 motorcycles were stolen and 192 snatched at gunpoint last year whereas 4,587 motorcycles have been stolen and 318 snatched at gunpoint so far this year.
Abdul Rehman, a resident of Ratta Amral, complained to the police that he was robbed of Rs200,000 by two gunmen while Mohammad Sikandar was robbed of his motorcycle by two gunmen in Waris Khan.
Mohammad Yasin, a resident of Rahim Yar Khan, and his two friends were deprived of their three mobile phones and Rs25,000 by three motorcycle riders at Saidpur Road while Naeem Akhtar told police that two gunmen snatched Rs107,494 from him in New Town.
Shahzad Ahmed lodged an FIR with the Sadiqabad police saying that burglars broke into his house and stole gold jewellery worth over Rs1.3 million. Yasir, a resident of Naseerabad, complained to the police that a woman and a man entered his house and held his wife at gunpoint and snatched gold jewellery worth Rs300,000 and Rs25,000 and escaped.
Jamshaid Hayat and his friend were robbed of cash, cell phones and a motorcycle by three robbers in Naseerabad while a robber snatched Rs18,000 and a cell phone from Shahzada Mohammad Saleem in the Racecourse area.
Dilawar Khan complained to the Airport police that he was taken at gunpoint by four persons while he was going to visit his ailing friend in Fazaia Colony and robbed of a new motorcycle and Rs120,000.
Mohammad Zaheer and his tenant family were robbed of cash and gold jewellery worth Rs940,000 by three gunmen in Rawat while a gunman stanched gold earnings from a woman in Kahuta.
