Varsity status demanded for Islamia college
PESHAWAR, Dec 10: The Senior Alumni Association of Islamia College, Peshawar, has demanded university status for the institution. The demand was made through a unanimous resolution adopted by the sixth annual general meeting of the body held at the Khyber Union Hall of Islamia College.
The acting president of the association, Brig Fahimullah Khattak, moved the second resolution asking for establishment of an exclusive girls section in the historic college, which was adopted by majority vote.
The meeting expressed concern over the failure of the college to generate income to run the institution.
Earlier, Principal Nisar Muhammad Nisar welcomed the senior alumni and presented annual report on the occasion.
He said the college had retained its past glory and students demonstrated well in the medical and engineering tests.
Association secretary-general Col (retd) Jamil Ahmad, secretary-general (Islamabad chapter) Syed ALtaf Hussain, Justice Burahanuddin, Eng Aziz ullah, Dr Naushad and Captain Umar Akram also spoke.
The association awarded Rs1,32,000 scholarships to 57 students.
