Jeddah trade body elects two women

RIYADH, Nov 30: In a historic first, two Saudi women, Lama Al Suleiman and Nashwa Taher, have been voted to sit on the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCI) board, along with male members.

Ten men were also voted to board. For the first time in Saudi history, women were allowed to contest election of the chamber. Women members constitute only five per cent of the Jeddah Chamber members. Out of some 3,990 votes polled only 100 were women.
