Security plan for Bannu polio drive finalised

LAKKI MARWAT: Police will set up temporary checkposts on the entry and exit points in Bannu district as part of plan to ensure foolproof security for polio teams.

In this regard, a meeting was held at Iqbal Shaheed Police Lines on Sunday with DPO Imran Shahid in the chair. Matters pertaining to security of vaccinators, law and order, action against anti-social elements and drug traffickers were discussed in the meeting.

The DPO said that police had already formulated a comprehensive security plan for protection of the members of polio teams. “Under the plan, police will guard vaccinators during the five-day outbreak response campaign commencing from March 14,” he added.

He asked the policemen accompanying polio teams to be alert and wear bullet proof jackets and helmets. “The cops deployed at the checkpoints should keep an eagle eye on movement of suspects,” he said.

In Lakki Marwat, DPO Shezada Umar Abbas Babar also reviewed security arrangements for polio teams at a meeting. Lakki DSP Iqbal Momand, Naurang DSP Farooq Khan and other officials attended the meeting.

OATH: Newly-elected tehsil chairmen and councillors took oath of their offices in Bannu on Sunday.

The oath taking ceremony was held at the office of Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zubair Niazi. Additional Deputy Commissioner Shabeer Khan administered oath to the elected chairmen including Irfan Khan Durrani, Malik Mamoor Wazir, Malik Masto Khan Wazir, Pir Kamal Shah, Junaid Rasheed and Malik Israr Khan.

The district election commissioner, Habibur Rehman, and other officials were also present on the occasion.

Mr Shabeer felicitated the tehsil chairmen and asked them to utilise their energies for the welfare and betterment of people.

The general, women, youth, peasant/worker and minority councillors of village and neighbourhood councils were also sworn in at separate ceremonies.

The relevant returning officers administered oath to them.
