LAHORE: Police claimed to have arrested two robbers following a crossfire with them in Islampura area here on Sunday.
As per police, a Dolphin team was on routine patrol when they spotted two “robbers” holding a citizen at gunpoint on the Out Fall Road.
On seeing the police, the gunmen opened fire to which the Dolphin personnel retaliated, leaving one of the robbers injured. Meanwhile, the other robber attempted to flee, leaving his injured accomplice on the road, but was also arrested by the police after a brief chase.
The injured robber was shifted to the Mian Munshi Hospital, where he was said to be stable. Police also recovered mobile phones and cash from the robbers, who were also proclaimed offenders in several other cases.
HOUSE ROBBERY: Four armed dacoits allegedly barged into a house in a private housing colony and took away cash and jewelry worth Rs2 million from there after taking a family hostage.
In his complaint to Sunder police, the house owner, Habib Ullah, said that four armed men in a car arrived at his house in Bahria Town around 2pm and held his family at gunpoint.
He said the suspects collected 455,000 in cash and 11 tola gold ornaments and left the house.
Mr Habib said as soon as the suspects left his house, he called the housing society’s security guards, informed them about the robbery and asked them to close all the exit points.
Despite being informed of the crime committed within their jurisdiction, the security staff took no action, letting the dacoits flee, he regretted.
self-immolation: A 60-year-old man who had allegedly attempted self-immolation in Samanabad two days ago, succumbed to his burns at a hospital here on Sunday.
According to police investigator Farooq Ahmed, the deceased, Naveed, of Paki Thathi area, after developing differences with his family over some issue, attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze at his house.
He said the man suffered more than 70 percent burns and was admitted to hospital, where he died on Sunday.
He said the dead body was handed over to the victim’s family after completion of legal formalities. He added that the family did not want any legal proceedings in the matter.
