RAWALPINDI: A man was arrested on the charge of beating his minor stepson over a petty issue on Tuesday.

Mohammad Naveed, a resident of Bhagwari mohalla, was put behind bars after a video clip showing him beating a child went viral on social media.

The boy could be heard screaming as the man beat him with a piece of rubber pipe.

Taking notice of the incident, the city police officer (CPO) directed the concerned police to trace the man and register an FIR against him.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Abdul Ghafoor of Banni police traced the person and recovered the victim.

The ASI said after he reached the house of Naveed, it transpired that he had married Rukiya Naveed after the death of her first husband. He said in the FIR that the boy, Mohammad Tayab, was from Rukiya’s first husband, and lived with her. The boy was beaten up by his stepfather for eating a banana without his permission.

The police said after the boy was medically examined, several torture marks were found on his body.
