BAHAWALNAGAR: The district police officer has suspended the nine officials of Niaz Shaheed check post over their alleged involvement in drug selling after two cops were booked by Haroonabad police on the charge of possession of drugs.

Constables Amir Maqbool and Imran Iqbal of Bhokan Patan (Niaz Shaheed) check post were arrested near Yahya Town, Haroonabad, by city police and booked under section 9 (a) when during the search police found heroin from their possession.

Police sources confirmed that on a tip-off by an informant, city police arrested them with 40 grams of heroin in two small bags when they were on their way to sell the drugs to a dealer Anwari Begum of Haroonabad.

Sources claimed that the check post officials arrested a drug dealer in the wee hours and found four packets of 28 grams each. They said that two packets were hidden by constable Majid Wattoo, whereas In-charge sub-inspector Faisal was in the possession of one packet.

They said the remaining one packet was given back to the drug dealer in exchange of Rs30,000 and he was released. They said that the money was transferred through easypaisa to the account of Aamir Maqbool. The officials were arrested when they came to sell the remaining two packets, the sources said. The DPO confirmed the incident and told Dawn that the investigation about selling drugs by the arrested officials was going on.
