ISLAMABAD: Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer has said Islamabad police have accelerated their efforts in property cases during the last month, arrested 156 suspects and busted gangs besides recovery of valuables including cash and gold ornaments worth Rs66 million from them.

Around 38 persons involved in 32 robberies were arrested and valuables worth Rs4.3 million were recovered from their possession. Investigation of 134 cases was completed and their challans were submitted in relevant courts. A total of 46 burglary and theft cases were resolved besides arrest of 75 persons and recovery of valuables worth over Rs4.7 million.

Around 43 car and motorcycle lifters involved in 56 cases were held besides recovery of 27 stolen cars, 24 motorcycles worth over Rs4.69 million from their possession.

During the crackdown against absconders, police arrested 66 proclaimed offenders and 111 court absconders who had been wanted for cases of murder, attempt to murder, burglary and snatching of valuables.

Mr Tanveer said that 135 persons were apprehended for possessing illegal weapons. Around 13 kalashnikovs and rifles, 114 pistols and 1,564 rounds along with two daggers were recovered from their possession.

A total of 136 persons were held for possession of narcotics and liquor while 134 cases were registered against them besides recovery of 61.8kgs of hashish, 7.5kgs of heroin, 294 grams of ice, 300 grams of opium and 461 bottles of liquor from their possession.

Around 49 suspects were also held in 21 important cases of murder, burglary and other crimes of heinous nature, Dr Tanveer said, adding police is striving hard to secure the city and all out efforts will be made for safety and security of citizens.
