LAHORE: The inaugural Telenor Pakistan Super Kabaddi League (SKL) started with a colourful opening ceremony at the Al-Hamra Open Air Theatre Hall here on Tuesday.

A musical programme and some cultural dances were the part of the ceremony attended by a good number of fans of the game and hosted by film actress Reema.

All the ten teams of the league were invited on the stage amid thunderous applause from the fans.

The participating teams are Gujrat Warriors, Gwadar Bahadurs, Lahore Thunders, Sahiwal Bulls, Karachi Zoorawers, Islamabad All Stars, Peshawar Haiders, Faisalabad Sherdils, Kashmir Janbaz and Multan Sikandars.

Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF) secretary Mohammad Sarwar said that ten players from different countries including Iran, Sri Lanka, Iraq,

Japan, Bangladesh, Kenya and Malaysia will be featuring in the tournament.

He said from next year, the players from more countries would be invited to take part in the league.

Four matches will be played daily from Wednesday with the final to be held on May 10.

Wednesday’s fixtures:

Pool ‘A’: Gujrat Warriors v Islamabad All Stars; Gwadar Bahadurs v Peshawar Haiders.

Pool ‘B’: Faisalabad Sherdils v Sahiwal Bulls; Karachi Zoorawar v Kashmir Janbaz.
