4 Dolphin Force staffers suspended

RAWALPINDI: Four staff members of Dolphin Force were suspended by the city police officer (CPO) for violating discipline during duty hours.

The CPO, Israr Ahmed Abbasi, took the action after a snap visit to the headquarters of the force located in the Police Lines on Wednesday.

During the visit, the CPO found two computer operators working in plainclothes.

A staff member was found sitting somewhere else instead of his work station. The shift incharge was also suspended after he visited the CPO office to explain his staff’s positions and to get them reinstated.

The CPO expressed his displeasure over the lack of cleanliness in the canteen and standard of food being served to the staff.

The Dolphin Force personnel are housed in the police barracks as the headquarters of the force is under construction.

A police official told Dawn that the three suspended computer operators were not part of the operational wing. Dolphin Force, a specialised unit of the Punjab police to curb street crime, has been active in Rawalpindi since its launch in October 2017.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) on Thursday foiled an attempt to smuggle ice heroin to Lagos (Nigeria) and arrested a Nigerian national at Benazir Bhutto International Airport.

According to sources, the seizure was made when the check-in of passengers for Turkish Airlines was in progress.

The security search of the baggage of the Nigerian national led to the recovery of 890 grams of ice heroin and two heroin-filled capsules. The suspect was shifted to the ANF police station for registration of a case.
