Two policemen were shot dead by unidentified assailants in Mardan's Tahkht-i-Bahi tehsil on Monday.
District Police Officer Mian Saeed said the policemen ─ Head Constable Farhad Ali and Constable Nawaz ─ were conducting a routine check at the Shago checkpost when unidentified attackers opened fire on them, killing them.
Police began a search operation in the surrounding area to track down the assailants.
