Dengue warning issued as boy dies in city

KARACHI: As a child died because of dengue fever in the city on Friday, the Sindh health ministry warned the relevant authorities in all 29 districts of the province to be vigilant as modest rains had a potential to increase the cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever, it emerged on Saturday.

Officials said a 10-year-old child identified as Zulfiqar, who died because of dengue fever at a private hospital, was among the 69 people inflicted with the disease last week.

“We have informed our officials in all districts of Sindh to be vigilant during and after the rainy season as the number of dengue cases are on the rise,” said a senior official in the provincial health ministry. The officials said it was second death from dengue fever in Sindh this year — both victims died in Karachi.

The man who died four months ago, however, was a resident of Benazirabad.
