50pc cut in salaries of lawmakers, bureaucrats sought

LAHORE: A writ petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court for a 50pc cut in salary and perks enjoyed by parliamentarians, judges and bureaucrats.

Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree stated in his petition that the country was burdened under foreign loans but salaries/perks of public office-holders, judges and civil servants had been increased extraordinarily. He pleaded that they enjoyed plenty of facilities, from medical treatment to foreign tours, at public expenses. Whereas simple medicines were not available for common people at government hospitals, he added.

The lawyer asked the court to order a reduction in the salaries and perks of parliamentarians, judges and bureaucrats up to 50pc in the larger public interest.
