ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan on Tuesday wrote a letter to army chief General Raheel Sharif to thank the military for its assistance in the conduction of by-elections in Punjab on October 11.

In his letter, the CEC said after agreeing to the requisition of troops, the “army assisted the Election Commission in fulfilling its constitutional obligation to hold honest, just and fair elections in an effective manner.”

Through this letter, the CEC also expressed his gratitude at the peaceful conclusion of the tensely contested bye-elections in Punjab.

Sardar Raza extended his pleasure over the well-organised performance of the army, saying “the way officers and jawans came out with flying colours in the conduct of by-polls is, no doubt, a matter of great satisfaction for the ECP and the whole nation.”

“Furthermore, there is no denying the fact that professionalism and devotion to duty is the hallmark of the Pakistan Army and of course it is an apt reflection of the institution and its courageous leadership.”

The chief election commissioner asked the army chief to convey his heartfelt feelings to the office of the Director General Military Operations and all the concerned formations for making foolproof arrangements.

He also prayed for the success of army and General Raheel in all endeavors against all challenges.
