GUJRANWALA: The suicide attacker, who was killed in an encounter with police at a mini stadium on Sheikhupura Road two days ago, has been identified as Ali Raza who was involved in killing nine people at the shrine of Pir Phal Shah.

City Police Officer Waqas Nazir told reporters on Friday that Raza also shot dead University of Gujrat’s Prof Ghulam Abbas and was facilitator in killing some army officers in Wazirabad.

Raza, an activist of the defunct Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, had worn a suicide jacket but could not blow himself up, the CPO said and added that Raza’s accomplice was also a terrorist who managed to escape.

REMAND: Anti-Terrorism Court judge Bushra Zaman on Friday extended physical remand of PML-N Gakkhar Town Vice-President Zahid Inayat Butt and his five accomplices.

The Aroop Town police had arrested him from his residence on allegation of demanding extortion money from transport operators.

‘TTP member was involved in many cases’

Earlier, the Model Town police had registered a case against him and his accomplices on same charges. A local court accepted his bail application and he was released from the Central Jail along with his men a few days ago on submitting surety bonds worth Rs50,000.

ACCIDENT: Two cousins were killed while another was injured in a collision between a wagon and a motorcycle near Lorry Adda on Friday.

Three cousins Awais, Usman and Nabil, residents of Gobindgarh locality, were going somewhere on their motorcycle when it collided with a wagon. Awais and Usman died on the spot while Nabil was admitted to the DHQ hospital in a critical condition.

The Civil Lines police arrested wagon driver Muhammad Ramzan and registered a case against him.

ELECTROCUTED: A two-year-old boy was electrocuted at Pir Kotli Ahmad Shah on Friday.

The child while playing at his house touched an electricity board and suffered a shock. He died on way to hospital.
