KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau has arrested the chairman of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Housing Cell for allegedly embezzling funds worth millions of rupees in a low-cost housing scheme.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, NAB said that Manzar Abbas — the chairman and director technical drawing and disbursement officer of the Benazir Housing Cell — was allegedly involved in misappropriation of Rs367.593 million funds for low-cost housing scheme in Kashmore.

It said that the suspect issued fake calculation for issuance of illegal cheques to M/s Fiza Social Welfare Organisation against which funds were illegally released and misappropriated.

He will be produced before an accountability court to obtain his physical remand on Wednesday.
