WASHINGTON, May 1: The US on Thursday described the capture of half a dozen Al Qaeda suspects in Pakistan as a significant achievement in the war against terror and has praised Pakistan for its cooperation.

“It’s been another strong day of Pakistani cooperation in the war against terror, with a helpful and significant capture,” said White House spokesman Ari Fleischer when asked for comments.

“And President Bush is appreciative to President Musharraf and the Pakistani people for their continued strong efforts to fight terror,” he added.

On Wednesday, Pakistan announced the capture of six suspected Al Qaeda members, including one linked to the bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen.

An Interior Ministry spokesman told reporters in Islamabad that explosives, arms and ammunition were also seized during the operation in Karachi. The detained men had been planning terrorist attacks, he added.
