Gold Cup hockey begins today

LAHORE, Dec 21 National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) will take on Police in the opening match of the NBP Gold Cup hockey tournament to commence here at the National Hockey Stadium from Monday.

The 16 teams taking part in the tournament — NBP, PIA, Navy, Railways, KESC, PAF, Army, Port Qasim, Pakistan Steel Mills, HBL, Wapda, Police, Punjab, Sindh, NWFP and Balochistan — have been divided into four groups.

The winning team will pocket Rs40,000 and runners-up Rs20,000. Three best players of the tournament including best goalkeeper will earn Rs5,000, each.

Secretary Punjab Hockey Association Rana Mujahid Ali and President Lahore District Hockey Association Khalid Rasool are the organising secretary and the tournament director.
