NEW DELHI, Oct 5 India's boxing chiefs suspended four-time women's world champion M.C. Marykom on Monday, citing “unsporting behaviour” after losing her quarter-final bout in the national championships in the eastern city of Jamshedpur.

An Indian Boxing Federation spokesman Rakesh Thakran said that Marykom would not be allowed to compete until the complaint against her is considered by the IBF's general assembly on Oct 27.

Another IBF official, Anil Boidar, said 27-year-old Marykom had made derogatory comments about the judges after losing to young boxer Pinky Jingra — 4-1 on a count-back after the bout was tied 15-15 on points.

Marykom is the reigning 46-kilogram world champion.

She has won the world title in four out of five championships and is considered India's best candidate for winning a medal in the 2012 Olympic Games, when women fighters will make their first appearance.—AP
