ISLAMABAD, April 28: The representatives of different parliamentary parties in the National Assembly have decided to enhance the number of members of the house committees in proportion to the increase in numerical strength of the lower house members.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the representatives of parliamentary parties which was presided over by Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain on Monday.

Raza Hayat Hiraj, minister of state for law and justice, human rights and parliamentary affairs, was supposed to introduce an amendment to the rules of procedure and conduct of business 1992, thereby calling for increasing the number of members of the house committees.

Through amendment to rule 181(1), the number of members will be raised to 16 as against 10, under rule 183 the number will be increased to 19 against 12, under rule 187 the number will be increased to 19 from 12, under rule 189 (1) from eight to 13, under rule 191 from 10 to 16, and under rule 193 the number will be increased to 19 from 12.

However, the amendments could not be moved due to the adjournment of the house in mourning of the Muhajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) MNA Mehmud Qureshi, who died on Sunday.
