ISLAMABAD Nasir Iqbal maintained his winning streak, creating another upset by beating Mansoor Zaman in the eighth Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Open Squash Championship at the Mushaf Squash Complex on Wednesday.

Nasir from PAF sidelined an experienced and far better rated national player Mansoor from PIA during the 46-minute encounter.

Fitness is the key to success and Nasir was at his best defeating Mansoor 3-2.

Despite losing the first game 1-11, Nasir made a comeback in the second game winning it 11-9.

Mansoor failed to sustain the scar of dodgy Nasir as he clinched the third game 11-8. Mansoor, however, stayed firm in the fourth set and played some good shots winning the fourth game 8-11 but luck was siding his opponent.

Nasir lifted the fifth game in style winning it 11-6.

Meanwhile, top ranking players Aamir Atlas, Yasir Butt and Farhan Mehboob cruised into the next round.

In the girls' event, Rushna Mehboob from ZTBL defeated Aliya Sarfraz from Wapda in half-hour fixture winning it 3-2.

Top seed of the event Maria Toor from Wapda hammered Riffat Khan from Punjab 11-3, 11-1, 11-6 during a short 17-minute decider.

Wapda's Saima Shoukat and Muqaddas Ashraf also lifted their matches defeating their opponents.

Both the players -- Nasir Iqbal and Rushna -- have been training under national coach Faheem Gul for the last few years.
