RAWALPINDI, April 26: Air Chief Marshal Kaleem Saadat was on Saturday elected as the new president of the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) at its Extra Ordinary General Council meeting.

Soon after taking over, Kaleem said that he would try and do as much as the late president of the PSF, Air Chief Marshal Mushaf Ali Mir did for the sport.

Mushaf was killed in a tragic plane crash close to Kohat in February, an accident in which the senior vice president of the federation, Air Vice Marshal Saleem A. Nawaz had also died.

Elections were also held for the post of vice president for which Air Vice Marshal Raashid Kalim was proposed and he was elected unanimously. He was later nominated as the senior vice president by the new head of the federation.

It was decided in the meeting that in order to generate healthy competition, a national team championship be organised regularly. “The house was unanimous on this and it was agreed that the championship will be a regular feature from now on,” secretary of the PSF Wing Commander Sajid Waheed said.

Lt. Gen Zarar Azim, the head of the Punjab Squash Association, who also attended the meeting, told the house that efforts were afoot for developing infrastructure especially the long abandoned courts at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

The meeting also decided to hold its Annual General Meeting once a year while the executive committee would meet twice each year.

The house paid rich tribute to the services rendered by late Mushaf and Saleem for the promotion of squash. Later, fateha was offered for the departed souls.
