Knight in knee concern

Published April 26, 2003

LONDON, April 25: England World Cup opener Nick Knight fears he could miss a chunk of the season owing to a persistent right knee injury which has troubled the Warwickshire left-hander since England duty during the winter.

“It is something that eases off when I have the chance to rest and comes back when I play cricket again - so that is an obvious concern,” the 33-year-old explained Friday.

Knight, this week facing former county Essex in a County Championship Division One match, rates himself fit for selection for the time being - but fears he may soon need a spell on the sidelines - a concern with one-day international dates against Pakistan, Zimbabwe and South Africa coming up in June and July.

“Warwickshire are fully aware of the situation, and we have decided that I should start the season and see how it goes,” he said.

“If it gets worse we will have to reassess the situation, and there is a chance I will have to miss some cricket,” he warned.—APP
