SUKKUR, April 25: A female Dolphin, which was found stranded in Khirthar Canal near Sukkur Barrage, was released into to River Indus by a wildlife team on Friday.
The stranded Dolphin was captured with the help of nets and safely released into the river after a struggle of five hours.
The rescued Dolphin was pregnant and its body parts were measured before the release. It weighed 98kg and appeared to be 22 years old.
Rescue of Indus Blind Dolphin, one of the endangered species, is being carried out by the Sindh wildlife department in collaboration with Lahore Zoo with the use of the United Nation Development Programme funds.
Main reason for reduction in population of the Indus Blind Dolphin are siltation of the river, fragmentation of the habitat due to construction of barrages and release of pollutants into the river.
KILLED: A woman and a man were shot dead by unidentified assailants in Peo Mal village in the jurisdiction of the Risaldar police, Jacobabad district on Friday.
The deceased man was identified as Liaqat Jakhrani but the name of the killed woman was not disclosed by her family.
Cause of the double murder could not be immediately ascertained.
POLICEMEN INJURED: Six criminals got their arrested accomplice released by attacking a police party and injuring an ASI and two police constables in Kandhkot on Friday.
Earlier, the party raided a hideout of criminals in the jurisdiction of the “A” section police and arrested Huzooro Bachkani.
Later, six armed men fired at the police party, injured ASI Ghulam Nabi Kalwar and constables Ali Gohar and Qadeer and got Bachkani freed.
