MIRPURKHAS, April 25: Persisting water shortage has adversely affected cotton sowing at the areas lying at the tails of Jamrao, Mithrao and Thar canal.
This was said by a group of the growers of the areas while talking to this correspondent on Friday.
They said that at the tails of three canals of the district, thousands of acres of land were lying barren as water was not being supplied to them.
They complained that the irrigation officials were mismanaging water supply after taking bribes from big landlords and were not implementing the rotation programme.
They said that according to water rotation programme, their lands were to receive water for fifteen days but they were getting it only for one week.
The farmers called upon the irrigation authorities to take notice of mismanagement and corruption of the officials to save the agriculture of the area.
JSM(J): Jeay Sindh Mahaz(J) chief Abdul Khaliq Junejo has said that resources of Sindh have been occupied by the federation.
He was speaking at the District Bar Room here on Thursday.
He said that Sindh had played a vital role in the Pakistan movement but after its creation, the province had suffered oppression.
He said that in the 1973 Constitution more rights were promised to the provinces but the constitution was never implemented.
WORKSHOP: A “Focal Persons Workshop” under the Decentralization Support Programme was held at Darbar Hall here on Friday.
The representatives of district governments and taluka municipal administrations of Mirpurkhas, Sanghar and Tharparkar attended the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, the deputy secretary, finance, Sindh, Abdul Kabir Qazi, hoped that the workshop would help functionaries of the local governments to work more efficiently.
Briefing about the programme, Asian Development Bank consultant Farukh Basheer Moriani advised the district and taluka administrations to organize consultative debates at taluka level.
Mirpurkhas District Nazim Pir Shafqat Hussain Shah Jilani suggested that the debates should be held at union council level because the UCs were the foundation of the local government system.
