LAHORE, Jan 6 The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday signed 39 memorandums of understanding with Gilgit-Baltistan government departments.

The MoUs were signed for investment in hydel power, tourism, minerals and mining, agriculture, poultry, hand-knotted carpets, plastic, pharmaceuticals, textile, construction, fruits and vegetable processing, vocational training, electrical and gas appliances, leather products, biotechnology, housing and town planning, dying and printing, juices and canned food, hybrid vegetable seed production, potato seed production, paints and varnish, paper and paperboard, pre-cast concrete, power panels, consultancy services and chemicals.

LCCI President Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry said that a large number of other businesses have also shown their interest in inking agreement with the counterparts in Gilgit-Baltistan that would be signed in coming days.

The chamber, he said, would make all possible efforts to ensure that the MoUs being were implemented as well.

Gilgit-Baltistan chief secretary Baber Yaqoob Fateh Mohammad said that the investment week arranged by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry would act as a catalyst in changing the fate of inhabitants of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Sheikhupura Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Amer Bakht Azam said that the initiative taken by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry would go a long way in economic turnaround of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Advisor to Gilgit-Baltistan Governor on Investment Mian Shafqat Ali said that one-window operation would be ensured in the execution of all the memoranda while economic cooperation would be made exemplary for other provinces.
