JHANG, April 23: The credit for restoration of democracy goes to President Gen Pervez Musharraf who honoured the Supreme Court verdict and transferred the power to the people’s representatives within stipulated time.
This was stated by federal Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat while speaking at a District Bar Association meeting here on Wednesday.
Mr Hayat said no-one could compel the army chief to do so as no political or religious party was in a position to bring the masses on streets for the purpose.
Referring to the LFO, he said it was a part of the constitution now and it would not be changed. The assemblies and senate would become illegal if the LFO was withdrawn.
Some political parties, whose leaders were living in exile to escape punishment for their misdeeds, were bent upon creating impediments in the way of democratic process.
The minister said through his efforts a mega development project for Jhang would be announced soon. Construction of a bridge over river Chenab near Chund Bharwana would begin next month.
Mr Hayat announced financial aid and provision of computers to the District Bar Association.
