Cop commits suicide

KARACHI, April 23: A police constable committed suicide while on duty at the Sindh Secretariat late Wednesday.

The police said constable Malick Waqar, 30, of the Sindh Reserve Police reported for his night shift duty at the Sindh Secretariat Old KDA building.

He was issued a pistol (MP-5) instead of an SMG with 12 bullets on request from the arms booth at the Sindh Secretariat, following which he went to his usual place of duty, loaded two bullets and shot himself in the head, the police said.

The bullet pierced through his head. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi where he died during treatment.

The victim, according to the police, resided in the Risala Police Lines and was a son of DSP Malick Ahsan who died in a target killing.

Police sources said victim had a fight with his elder brother Malick Zulfiqar, a police inspector, in the morning, during which Waqar suffered head injuries.
