HYDERABAD, March 22 JUI-F Senator Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan has said that confrontation between the PPP and the PML-N would harm the political system and the country and called upon politicians to ensure supremacy of parliament.

Addressing a news conference at Tando Allahyar press club on Sunday, he said that democracy in the country had yet to take roots and the supremacy of parliament was yet to be restored.

He said the country was in the grip of lawlessness and political instability while the drone attacks were continuing.

He stressed the need for the restoration of 1973 constitution. He said that Sindh, NWFP and Balochistan were still deprived of their rights which were guaranteed under the 1973 constitution.

He welcomed the enforcement of Shariat laws in Swat but said that it had come too late as 2,500 people had already lost their life. He was, however, sceptical about the intentions of the government in the enforcement of the Swat agreement.

Our Jacobabad correspondent adds Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam leader, Senator Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro, has raised questions over impartiality of the reinstated judges and said the Pakistan People's Party should have restored them when the party came to power after elections.

Talking to journalists at the residence of Dr A.G. Ansari here, Dr Soomro said that the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry would have to face many challenges in near future, including Benazir Bhutto murder case, massacre of innocent students in Lal Masjid operation, Karsaz tragedy and May 12 killings.

He said that credit for the restoration of deposed judges went to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. The country's major problems were; deteriorating law and order situation, unemployment, power crisis and illiteracy, which the government should solve on priority basis, he said.

He said that if the government succeeded in solving them, it would be able to complete its tenure. His party wanted to see the PPP complete its tenure because it was necessary for the stability and solidarity of Pakistan, he said.

Dr Soomro said that peace could be restored in the tribal areas through talks with local people without any pressure from foreign forces.
