WANGANUI (New Zealand), Dec 7: Harley James scored a century as the New Zealand District Association XI reached 232 for three at the close of play on the first day of the three-day tour match against Bangladesh on Friday.
James, a hard-hitting batsman who went in at number three, struck eight fours and one six in his 117.
The best of the Bangladesh bowlers was Mohammad Ashraful, the 17-year-old who made his name by becoming the youngest batsman to score a Test century on his debut, against Sri Lanka in September.
Ashraful is also a useful leg break bowler and he picked up two for 49 from 13 overs on the opening day.
The District Association XI is made up of players yet to play first class cricket, with James the only exception.
