DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Dec 7: Patients have complained of the rude behaviour of some of the doctors of the district teaching hospital, Dera Ismail Khan.

They alleged doctors do not pay attention to even those patients whose condition need serious attention and when attendants try to draw their attention, these doctors often resort to using foul language with them.

A doctor, Qutubuddin Bhittani, even maltreated a local councillor Fazlur Rehman Multani, when he brought a patient to the emergency. The doctor and other staff on duty continued chatting, while a number of patients were lying unattended, the attendants said.

When the councillor diverted the doctor’s attention towards the condition of his patient, the doctor not only abused the elected representative, but also kicked him out of the emergency room along with other patients, the shocked attendants said.

The matter was brought to the notice of Zila Nazim Latifullah Khan Alizai, but no action had so far been taken against the doctor.

The same doctor had also tried to fire at a local journalist last month, while the later was discharging his professional responsibilities.

Charges against the doctor were dropped on the intervention of the hospital staff and after a written apology was tendered by the doctor to the Dera Union of Journalists.

The written apology was sent to the governor, secretary health and the director-general of health services, however, no departmental or disciplinary action was taken against the doctor, some journalists revealed.
