HYDERABAD, April 22: The Sindh National Council has called upon the people to discard their petty differences and party affiliations and come out on the roads against the construction of the greater Thal canal to save their lands, water and future generations.

The council at its meeting held here on Monday said that many water agreements were signed in the past but each agreement was violated.

It pointed out that the attitude of the ruling clique was reflected in the attitude of the Wapda chairman who had trampled over the unanimous resolution of the Sindh Assembly, representing 50 million people of Sindh, against the Thal canal.

It said that the extent to which Punjab could go was manifest from the statement of Hamid Malhi of the Punjab Water Council who had stated in unequivocal terms that the Kalabagh dam would be constructed even if Sindh province opted for separation.

The meeting noted that with only slight difference, the prime minister had openly stated that he was in favour of the Kalabagh dam. It said that now the people of Sindh had been left with no way out as their cities, their sources of livelihood, employment, and even water was in the control of others.
