KOHAT, Nov 24 Police claimed to have arrested 34 suspects on Monday during a search operation along the tribal belt in Kohat district.

The arrests included two fugitives and four drug smugglers besides 28 suspects who were shifted to joint interrogation cell.

The operation was carried out by police commandos in Ublan, Bazid Khel, Ghurzandi, Mohammadzai, Jangle Khel, Ghamkol and Mian Garhi areas along the Frontier Region of Kohat and Orakzai Agency.

The police also seized six Kalashnikovs, two Kalakovs, eight rifles, six shot guns, two 12 bore repeaters, 13 pistols, 275 cartridges and nine kilogram hashish.

The district police officer urged the people to cooperate with police and pinpoint anti social elements and terrorists, who were trying to disturb peace in the area. He said that police would try their best within the limited resources to protect the life and property of people.

constable killed A Levies constable was killed when militants attacked Tor Pul checkpost in Thall tehsil of Hangu on late Sunday night.

Officials said that dozens of Taliban surrounded the checkpost at 1am and started firing. The police and Levies retaliated and Frontier Corps were also called in after which the militants fled.

The exchange of fire continued for almost two hours. Levies constable, Nadir Khan, was killed in the clash.
