IHF names 30 hockey probables

NEW DELHI, April 19: Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) has announced 30 probables for double-leg invitational international hockey tournament in Australia.

Besides India and hosts Australia, the tournament, to be played in Perth from May 28 to June 1 and in Sydney from June 4 to June 8, will also feature Pakistan and an Australia 'A' side.

The 30 probables, including veteran Dhanraj Pillay, former captain Dilip Tirkey and goalkeeper Devesh Chauhan, will attend a coaching camp at Bangalore from April 20 to May 25, after which final team for the tournament will be selected, an IHF release said here on Saturday.

This will be India's first international fixture since withdrawing from the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup tournament in Malaysia protesting against the ill-treament meted out to its IT professionals in the country.

The probables: Goalkeepers: Kamaldeep Singh, S Chauhan, Bharat Chetri, Raja Rajan. Full Backs: Dilip Tirkey, Kanwalpreet Singh, Jugraj Singh, Dinesh Nayak, Sharonjit Singh. Half Backs: Ignace Tirkey, Vikram Pillay, Bimal Lakra, Arjun Halappa, Devendra Singh, Prabool Tirkey, Sandeep Michael, Prabhdeep Singh, Vinay VS, Rajbeer Singh. Forwards: Dhanraj Pillay, Mukesh Kumar, Baljit Singh, Gagan Ajit Singh, Deepak Sonkhla, Prabhjot Singh, Tejbir Singh, Tushar Khondkar, Rajpal Singh, Gurcharan Singh, Daljit Singh.—PPI
