ISLAMABAD The Islamabad High Court disposed of a writ petition on Tuesday seeking a direction to the federal government to issue a memorial coin for Benazir Bhutto and asked the communication ministry to consider the plea.

The single bench of Chief Justice Sardar Mohammad Aslam disposed of the petition filed by Mohamamd Ashfaque Chaudhry, who pleaded that it was a worldwide practice to issue memorial postal stamps or coins in order to pay tributes to their leaders.

The petitioner said that services rendered by the late PPP leader for democracy, social justice, public welfare, peace and prosperity of the nation were unmatched in the history of Pakistan.

In a separate unrelated development, the IHC Registrar has returned with objections a petition filed by Barrister M Javed Jafferi, requesting the court to order placing the names of former president Pervez Musharraf, PML-N Quaid Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif and Governor State Bank of Pakistan Dr Shamshad Akhtar on the Exit Control List.
