ISLAMABAD Pakistan has done more than any other nation in the global war against terrorism, former President Pervez Musharraf, on his way to US for a private visit, said, defending his country in response to the Mumbai attacks.

Pakistan has lost a large number of security personnel and civilians in the fight against terrorism, Musharraf said.

The world community, including India and Pakistan, must fight the root cause of extremism and terrorism, the socio-political causes of it. What we are seeing in Kashmir and Palestine are perfect examples of this and we will see revolutions coming out of these places.

I regret that all the developments on both sides for dialogue, peace and coordination built in the past over many years were washed out by one terror incident, which the people of both sides condemn, Musharraf said, referring to the mounting tension between the India and Pakistan.

Pakistan's forces and people have all the ability to defend the country, Musharraf said.

India should not talk rubbish like surgical strikes. Our forces are not sitting idle ... and have full capacity to retaliate to any level of aggression. India should not dare cast an evil eye on Pakistan.

The only way to resolve the mystery of the Nov 26 attacks is to hold joint investigations.

Responding to questions on the issue of drone attacks and the Pak-Afghan border situation, he strongly denied any agreement with the US or any other country allowing them to conduct cross-border raids inside Pakistan.

He declined to comment on the performance of the Zardari-led government.
